Encounters

Yew Tree Arts are proud to announce that ‘Encounters’ will be premiered February 2!

After a successful Arts Council Application, the writing complete and rehearsals almost over, opening night is in sight.

We are exceptionally proud of this professional production that will be performed exclusively at The Hepworth Wakefield.

Full details can be found below

Encounters is about two people with a history…

Maisie and Jed grew up together in Wakefield, they lived on the same street, they went to the same primary school and the same high school…their lives entwined and enmeshed in a way that both of them assumed would carry on for always…

But at 18 Maisie left the area, suddenly and without explanation and from that day her and Jed have led entirely separate lives without any reference to each other, not knowing how their once constant companion has grown up, what they have become or where they ended up living.

When Jed receives a facebook message from Maisie just before Christmas he isn’t sure what to think but agrees to meet her on neutral territory in the new year and suggests the Hepworth Gallery as a suitable venue…neither realise the implications of either their separation or being reunited but as they spend time in the gallery revelations about who they are, their history and their potential futures emerge…

Inspired by Hepworth’s work “Encounters” is a play about what happens in the spaces in our lives, the hollows. It is a play about seeing the whole of something, of someone… It looks at the influence a sense of place has on an individual and their relationships with others but it is also a story about two people and whether they can find a way to admit each other into their lives after so much time apart…

The play is a professional piece of writing and not a youth theatre production.

It will include two actors in character in the gallery for 1 hour and 30 minutes. They will perform 6 short pieces in 6 galleries that tell the couples story.

This production has a private premiere at The Hepworth Wakefield, February 2, which is invitation only.
